In December 2012 in New Delhi, capital city of India, a young woman travelling with her friend in a public bus at night was gang raped by 4 men on the bus, assaulted anally with a rod so badly that her intestines were out of her body. The same men then beat her friend to within an inch of his life, and then tossed both of them out on to the road from the moving bus. The bus driver (who was an accomplice) then tried to run them over. But they survived. Just about.
The woman died a few days later, but her case became a national sensation, leading to protests and a great hue and cry from the public.
Nine months later, these animals have finally been awarded punishment by the court. All four have been sentenced to death. I think this is a huge victory for our country, and people who had begun to lose faith in our judiciary and in humanity have gained a little bit of it back today.
